Media Forensics & Prior Art

Prove it's yours.
Without public exposure.

Whether you're protecting proprietary source code, registering a design patent, or capturing a photo of a scratched rental car before driving off. ProofCore anchors your cryptographic proof without uploading your private data to public ledgers[1], establishing indisputable Prior Art[2].

โš ๏ธ

Critical: Send as 'Document / File'

If you send a photo using Telegram's standard gallery button, Telegram compresses the image and permanently wipes the EXIF data[3], GPS coordinates, and C2PA manifests[4]. To preserve hardware forensics, you MUST send media as an uncompressed File/Document.

1

SEND AS FILE

Send your file, photo, or document to the bot. Assets are processed in your Private Off-Chain Vault and are NEVER uploaded to public blockchains.

2

EXTRACT

We extract hardware EXIF data (Camera Model, GPS, Shutter Count) and check for cryptographic C2PA/JUMBF hardware signatures.

3

DUAL HASH

We calculate strict SHA-256 for binary integrity, and perceptual hashes (pHash/dHash)[5] to detect derivative works and cropped images.

4

ANCHOR

The metadata and hashes are combined into a Merkle Root and permanently anchored to the TON Blockchain.

Forensic Demonstration

A Digital Asset, Dissected

This specimen demonstrates what happens when you send an original, uncompressed photo with C2PA Content Credentials. Notice the hardware forensics, GPS, and dual hashes.

Real-World Scenarios

Beyond Digital Art

From multi-million dollar algorithms to rental car deposits.

๐Ÿ’ป Trade Secrets

Trade Secrets & Proprietary Code

Contractors or employees leave to build competing products. Prove you had the exact codebase months before their departure.

โ†’ ProofCore anchors: The SHA-256 digest of the repository, establishing prior possession without exposing code.
๐Ÿš— Physical Property

Rental Cars & Security Deposits

Car rental companies and landlords often charge for pre-existing scratches or damage, claiming tenant liability.

โ†’ ProofCore anchors: Uncompressed photos with GPS coordinates and timestamps before driving off.
๐ŸŽต Creative Works

Music, Stems & Audio Demos

Sharing unreleased beats or demo tracks with producers who later use your melody without attribution.

โ†’ ProofCore anchors: Uncompressed WAV/MP3 files, creating an immutable timestamp prior to distribution.
๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ Derivative Works

Derivative Works & Plagiarism

An infringer crops your high-res photography, alters the saturation, and claims it as their own.

โ†’ ProofCore anchors: Perceptual Hashes (pHash/dHash), mathematically linking derivative edits back to your original.

Epistemic Clarity

Clear mathematical boundaries for intellectual property and physical evidence.

๐ŸŸข What ProofCore Establishes

  • Prior Art (Priority): The exact byte-stream existed at the time of the blockchain anchor.
  • Visual Similarity: Through pHash, we can mathematically link derivative or cropped works back to your original.
  • Hardware Origin: Preserves untouched EXIF metadata (camera serial, lens, timestamps) as received.
  • C2PA Validity: The presence of a hardware-signed JUMBF container confirming capture authenticity.

๐Ÿ”ด What ProofCore Does NOT Establish

  • Legal Authorship: Anchoring a file does not prove you created it, only that you possessed it.
  • Absence of Prior Works: Someone else could have created the exact same design earlier without using ProofCore.
  • Pre-Upload Manipulation: If EXIF data was spoofed before uploading, we only prove it hasn't changed since ingestion.
  • Automatic Copyright Enforcement in your jurisdiction.
"We cryptographically prove you held this exact photo or schematic on January 1st. We do not prove you didn't copy it from someone else on December 31st."

Case Law & Precedents

Why Cryptographic Timestamps Matter for IP

๐Ÿ’ผ US Defend Trade Secrets Act (DTSA) โ†—

To claim federal trade secret protection, owners must take 'reasonable measures to maintain secrecy'. Uploading proprietary source code to a public blockchain or third-party cloud destroys secrecy. ProofCore's architecture anchors only the mathematical hash, preserving confidentiality while establishing priority.

โ†’ Lesson: Avoid uploading proprietary trade secrets to public databases or shared services.

๐Ÿ“ท United States v. Lizarraga-Tirado (9th Cir. 2015) โ†—

The 9th Circuit Court held that machine-generated metadata (such as automated GPS records) are not 'hearsay' statements by a human, but their evidentiary value requires a technical foundation demonstrating that the data was not modified.

โ†’ Lesson: Sealing digital assets immediately after capture creates the necessary chain of custody.

Statutory Evidentiary Context

๐ŸŒ Berne Convention (Article 5)

Copyright attaches automatically upon creation without mandatory registration. However, in an infringement dispute, the burden is on the creator to prove prior possession. Cryptographic anchoring provides a mathematically verifiable timestamp.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ 17 U.S.C. ยง 411 (US Copyright Act)

While formal registration with the US Copyright Office is required prior to filing an infringement suit in the US, an immutable blockchain timestamp defeats the 'Independent Creation Defense' by demonstrating prior existence.

๐Ÿ”’ C2PA (Content Credentials)

ProofCore actively detects JUMBF containers (C2PA) generated by certified hardware and software, integrating camera-level provenance into the blockchain proof.

Disclaimer: ProofCore provides technical cryptographic evidence. Admissibility and evidentiary weight depend on applicable jurisdiction and procedural court rules.

Glossary of Forensic & Technical Terms

[1] Zero-Storage on Blockchain

A security architecture where only one-way cryptographic hashes are recorded on the public ledger. Your actual files, images, and trade secrets are never exposed on public blockchains.

[2] Prior Art (Priority of Possession)

Technical evidence establishing that a specific idea, code revision, or digital file existed at a verified point in time, defeating claims of independent creation by competitors.

[3] EXIF Metadata

Technical parameters recorded by camera hardware at capture time, including device serial numbers, lens type, exposure values, and GPS satellite coordinates.

[4] C2PA / JUMBF

The Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) standard. Uses cryptographic JUMBF containers to cryptographically bind hardware signatures directly into media files.

[5] pHash (Perceptual Hash)

An algorithm that creates a fingerprint based on the visual structure of an image rather than its raw bytes. Unlike SHA-256, it mathematically detects if an image was resized, cropped, or slightly edited.
